- every day : everyday

 

처음엔 everyday 와 every day가 따로 존재하는지도 몰랐다.

하지만 공부를 하면서 단지 띄워쓰기 하나 차이로 쓰이는 용도가 달라진다는걸 알았다.


 

"every day"는 부사입니다. adv, how often

(ex) I do this every day. 
"나는 매일 이것을 합니다."


 

"everyday"는 형용사입니다. adj, common

(ex) My mom says that everyday chores are fun.

"우리엄마는 매일하는 집안 일이 재미있다고 하신다." 

 

 

- than : then

 

"than" - 일반적으로 비교에할때 사용됨

(ex) Health is better than wealth.

건강은 부보다 낫다.


 

"then" - 일반적으로 시간적 경과를 나타냄

(ex) First came Mary and then John.

메리가 먼저오고 그리고 나서 존이 왔다.

 

 

- lose : loose

 

"lose" - 분실하다, v, to misplace

(ex) Did she lose something?

그녀가 무엇을 잃어버렸니?


 

"loose" - 느슨한, 헐거운 adj, to fit improperly, too big

(ex) This shirt is too loose.

이 셔츠는 정말 느슨 하다.

 

 

- farther : further

 

"farther" - 더 멀리, 더 많이 measurable distance

(ex) He threw the ball farther than anyone else.

그는 다른사람보다 더 멀리 공을 던졌다.

 

"further" - (시,공간적으로) 더욱 깊이, 더 멀리 more thoroughly

(ex) Let's examine this issue further.

이 문제를 더 깊이 연구해보자.

 

 

- less : fewer

 

"less" - 더 적은 not countable

(ex) He was advised to drink less beer

그는 술을 덜 마시라는 조언을 들었다. 

 

"fewer" - 적은, 소수의 things you can count

(ex) There are fewer students in the room.

그방엔 소수의 학생들이 있다.

 

 

- amount : number

 

amount - 총계 not countable (exception: money - the amount of money in your account)

(ex) the amount of air in the room

방안에 있는 공기의 총계

 

number - 총계, 수 things you can count

(ex) the number of cats on campus

교내에 있는 고양이들의 수 

 

 

- it's : its

 

it's - it is 의 줄임 a contraction for it is or it has

(ex) It's been a long day.

긴 하루였다.

 

its - 그것의... 사물,동물을 가리키는소유격 possessive of a non-human

(ex) The car has lost its power.

그 자동차는 그것의 동력을 잃었다.

 

 

- there : their : they're

 

there – 거기에, 저기에 at that place

(ex) I’m not sure I want to go there.

거기에 가고싶은지 나는 단언할 수 없다.

 

their – 그들의.. 복수 소유격plural possessive

(ex) Everybody must show their ticket.

한명도 빠짐없이 그들의 표를 보여주어야 합니다.

 

they’re – they are 의 줄임 contraction for they are

(ex) They’re late for church every Sunday.

그들은 매 주일마다 늦는다.

 

 

- your : you're

 

your – you의 소유격 possessive of you

(ex) Don’t forget your book.

너의 책을 잊어버리지마라

 

you’re – you are의 줄임 contractions for “you are”

(ex) You’re going to receive some important papers.

당신은 중요한 서류들을 받을 것이다.
